A League Record For Danny

Ashton Town's Danny Coid has earned his place in the league record books, with what we believe is the fastest goal in league history.

Town kicked off in their Division One game at the Select Security Stadium against Widnes, and once the referee signalled the start of the game, Town's Sean Robinson touched the ball to Neil Weaver, who in turned passed to Danny Coid, and he unleashed a 50 yard shot from the half way line that beat Widnes goalkeeper - and former Ashton Town trialist - Gage Walsh.

The goal was timed at around three seconds by those present who had managed to set their stop watches at the start of the game.

Although records from the early years of the league are not fully complete, we believe that this will be the fastest goal in league history, and the quickest opening day goal in any season since the league began in 1982 - unless anyone can tell us differently.
