Bacup Borough have announced that BBC Radio 6 Music’s Elizabeth Alker has joined the club as Honorary President.

Alker, a broadcast journalist with BBC, broke the news via her Twitter account, saying that she was "Excited to announce that I am going to be Honorary Club President at @bacupbfc this season".

The idea for approaching Elizabeth and asking her to get involved at the club came from Business Development Director Sandy Wilkie, who is a regular listener to BBC 6 Music.

"I was aware she was from the local area, just outside Rochdale", said Sandy.

"I contacted her on Twitter and we had a phone call to discuss the idea in principle. I explained about the history of the Club and our current plans and I met her in Rochdale in June to agree that we would go ahead.

"What is interesting about Elizabeth is that she is the co-ordinator at her local foodbank. She is interested in social issues and therefore it seemed like a good fit for a Club in a relatively economically deprived area.

"She brings something different to the Club, she has various music industry and journalism contacts, so will be someone who can generate positive PR by her presence with us".

Elizabeth will be promoting the club and the league on Radio 6 and may be hosting a short feature on the club in the coming weeks. She will attend her first match at the Brian Boys West View Stadium when Borough host Atherton LR on August 19th.
