West Didsbury & Chorlton volunteer Jonny Keen has written a book to raise funds for the Christie Hospital Charitable Fund.

Last season, Didsbury residents Jonny and Danny Mohammed offered to volunteer on matchdays at the club, and have already become well known through their attempts to sell Golden Goal and raffle tickets upon welcoming supporters into Brookburn Road.

Jonny has also been contributing articles to the West programme – a role Jonny, as a newly published author, is well suited to.

His first book, titled "The Rider in the Waves and Other Adventures", is a book of 8 short stories suitable for ages 9 and up.

It was published in February 2015 and has already attracted the attention of local media having been featured in the Sale & Altrincham Messenger, in which Jonny revealed he was donating 100% of his royalties to the Christie Charitable Fund.

Jonny said: “I had the idea that I wanted my first book to be something that helped people and I wanted to support a local charity. Everyone knows what good work the Christie does so it seemed an obvious choice.”

“I spoke to West chairman Glyn Meacher at the end of last season and he was more than happy to support this by letting me sell them on a matchday. We're yet to fix a date, but it'll be a home game in pre-season. If it goes well, perhaps we'll do it again.”

Jonny hopes that the book will appeal to a wide range of people. “The stories are appropriate for kids, but I think there are elements in the book that anyone might enjoy, especially some of the humour.

"This is a bit of a local project, having been written by me and edited by Danny Mohammed, but having said that, I think the cover art by the fantastic New Zealand artist Teina Tutaki is a big pull as well.

"People can support charity and get a cool book full of interesting stories and original artwork at the same time.”

The book is also available from Amazon and already has five star reviews, which can be viewed by clicking here
