Congleton Town Chairman Steps Down

After an exceptionally long reign at the helm of Congleton Town, Peter Evans has stepped down from the role of club Chairman.
A club statement said:
"Peter has decided that the time is now right for him to relinquish his football club duties and pass the baton on.
Peter, a local man, has supported the Bears for over 60 years, has been actively involved in club matters since the 1970’s and latterly has served the club as its Chairman over an impressive 18 year period.
During that time, Peter also spent a short time on the North West Counties League Management Committee as a club representative, where he was well respected by fellow committee members. It goes without saying that the club is hugely beholden to Peter for his significant contribution to the cause and for all his hard work and endeavours throughout his lengthy custodianship of the club.
The time and effort he has expended on the behalf of the club is beyond measure. In this respect the club is not only indebted to Peter but also to his partner Sue who, up until her recent illness, was regularly seen at the ground with a brush in her hand, preparing sandwiches or just generally pitching-in. We wish them both all the very best for the future.
One of Peter’s final actions was to gift his club shares to help facilitate community ownership at Congleton Town FC, a truly generous gesture done simply for the greater good of the football club. A most fitting way for Peter to bow out.
Peter has now been superseded as Club Chairman by the previous Club Vice-chairman, Steve Burgess, with the latter’s role being left unfilled.
Peter was also the co-opted Chairman of Congleton Town Community Football Club Limited, the community benefit society that wholly owns the football club, and Nigel Moorhouse is now the Society Chairman with Nick Shatwell assuming the role of his deputy".
