Maine Road have announced that Chris Hirst will be their new first team manager for season 2015-16.

Chris is still only 25, but his playing career was cut short by a serious ankle injury, after spells with Macclesfield Town, Mossley, New Mills, Glossop North End and Maine Road, where he made 38 appearances, scoring 7 goals.

He then turned to coaching and last season returned to Brantingham Road to assist Derek Barber in running the reserves. When Derek moved up to the first team midway through the season, Chris took over the reserves and two months later stepped up to assist Derek with the first team.

In the last few weeks of the season, Chris gradually took more responsibility in the running of the first team, and once the season ended the committee took the decision to give him the job on a permanent basis.

Derek Barber said: "Maine Road have now reverted back to their usual format of promoting from within, and Chris becomes the club's 9th manager in our 60 year history".
