A day of drama and late goals provided plenty of talking points on the penultimate Saturday of the season.

Pride of place goes to Glossop North End, who clinched the Premier Division title with a 3-0 win over Nelson. After a goalless first half, two goals from Lee Blackshaw and one from Mark Reed earned Glossop a win that was followed by the presentation of the championship trophy.

As it turned out, Glossop could have lost and still lifted the title, with Runcorn Linnets losing 2-0 at West Didsbury & Chorlton, the home side giving manager Andy Nelson a good send off in his last home game in charge after six years at the helm.

1874 Northwich remain in third place in the table, despite going down 3-2 at home to AFC Blackpool. The win proved to be crucial for the visitors as it ensured Premier Division survival, with a double from Kurt Willoughby and one from Lloyd Balazs securing the win.

Two goals in the opening 28 minutes gave Colne a good start against Alsager Town, but the Bullets eventually emerged with a point in the end, thanks to second half goals from Michale Blundell and Jordan Johnson. Colne remain in fourth place.

The battle to avoid relegation will continue into the last week of the season and St Helens Town's destiny is now in their own hands after they won 2-0 at home to Maine Road. First half goals from James Rushton-Woods and Marcus Perry ensured that Saints can avoid the drop if they beat Silsden at home on Tuesday night.

If St Helens slip up, Bacup & Rossendale Borough are ready to capitalise after they won 3-2 at home Winsford United, Yves Zama scoring the winner for Borough with eight minutes remaining.

Those two results proved to be bad news for Barnoldswick Town, who lost 1-0 at Runcorn Town, Ross Davies scoring the only goal of the game 16 minutes from time.

Barlick have now completed their league programme, and will have to watch on as St Helens and Bacup & Rossendale Borough battle it out in midweek to keep their survival hopes alive.

Elsewhere, Abbey Hey drew 0-0 with Ashton Athletic, Squires Gate drew 1-1 with Congleton Town, and a Tom Peterson penalty was enough to see Bootle through to a 1-0 win at Silsden.

In Division One, newly crowned champions Atherton Collieries were held to a 2-2 draw at Ashton Town, after being two up inside 12 minutes with goals from Wes Bancroft and Luke Gibson. Marcus Cusani rescued a point with two replies for Ashton

First Division runners-up Cammell Laird 1907 cruised to a comfortable 3-1 win at Atherton LR, and aside of Widnes's 2-0 win over Wigan Robin Park, all the other games had an impact on the play off positions.

Hanley Town secured their play off place with a 3-0 win over Irlam, Theo Stair grabbing his 39th goal of the season, and only a dramatic turnaround would stop AFC Darwen joining them, Lee Turner's first half goal earning them a 1-1 draw at Cheadle Town.

Barnton's hopes of a play off place were given a setback, when two goals in the final three minutes from Elliot Hailwood and Daniel Gregory sent them to a 2-1 defeat at Daisy Hill.

Barnton remain in fifth place, two points ahead of Holker Old Boys, who looked to be ready to bag all three points at Eccleshall until a last minute equaliser from Dan Counter earned the home side a point in a 1-1 draw.

Chadderton lie just outside the last play off spot after going down 2-1 at Litherland REMYCA, for whom Daniel Duffy and Louis Austin scored to wrap up an encouraging opening season for the league new boys.

Away from League action, AFC Liverpool were involved in an enthralling game in the final of the Liverpool Senior Cup, going down 5-4 to Skelmesdale United.
