Premier League Match Official Steps In At Squires Gate

Barclays Premier League match official Michael Salisbury went to Squires Gate as a spectator on Saturday – but ended spending most of the afternoon running the line.

The Premier League assistant referee was watching the game between Squires Gate and Runcorn Town when the match referee withdrew from the game after 15 minutes, having been taken ill.

Michael volunteered to help, and after a quick discussion it was agreed he would run the line with the linesman taking over officiating the remainder of the game.

In his next game, Michael will be running the line in the Championship clash between Watford and Middlesbrough on Easter Monday, having had some unexpected game time at Gate on Saturday.
