Daisy Hill are celebrating after their Under 18s teams won the Lancashire FA Under 18 Youth Cup on Sunday.

On a day of finals at the County Ground in Leyland, an impressive performance from the Daisy youngsters saw them record a 5-0 win over Thornton Cleveleys in the final of the Lancashire FA Under 18 Youth Cup.

It's the first time in 46 years that the club has won the competition and only the third time in its' 100 year + existence.

Daisy Hill went ahead in the 19th minute, Dominic Owen scoring with a left foot close range finish after a scramble in the box. This was quickly followed by a second one on 25mins when Owen was upended in the area and Brad Brown fired home the resulting penalty.

On 35 minutes the opposition had a goal disallowed for offside and then only a great save from Daisy keeper Kristian Whalley kept the lead intact at the break.

On the hour mark a crucial third goal was added with an unstoppable Moses Yoak 25 yard left footer, and a Dominic Owen header and an impressive solo effort from Alex Guest completed the scoring.

Daisy Hill Secretary Bob Naylor said: "It was a good final, and the final scoreline didn't flatter us, in fact it could have been more.

"We hope that the players from the team will now stay on and fight for first team places. We have registered a number of them with the NWCFL, and hopefully some of them may see some action before the end of the season".

The team is overseen by manager Paul Shiels, assisted by Steve Owen and Lee Eckersley.  Steve Owen commented: "It was a very special achievement that the whole squad contributed to, congratulations on a magnificent result".
