Bacup & Rossendale Borough have announced that they will be setting up an under 18s team next season.

The club have recruited Kevin Jelley and Lee Barrett to oversee the new squad, both of whom have been involved with Rossendale Valley Juniors for several years.

The squad will be in place for the start of the 2015-16 season and will participate in a Youth Alliance league, with the eventual aim being that players will progress into the senior squad.

Bacup manager Brent Peters said: "Unlike what other clubs have done with their youth set up by keeping them on the edge of their club, or in some cases not connected with a senior club, this will not be the case.

"Our youth will be very much an integral part of our club in every sense of the word, be that utilising facilities, training, the lot

"In the past I have given first team debuts to lads at sixteen and seventeen years old, local lads such has Paul Waine, Martin Peters, the late Bryan Herbert and Nicky Taylor to name a few.

"This (new squad) will allow more filtration of local lads coming into the first team arena, and also means that this will allow the boys to have grown into the club.

“It would be good to see us progress even younger age groups into our fold. However, we must walk before we can run.

"The simple fact of the matter is running one team is costly, so to run several teams does obviously bring with it a whole lot of added costs and responsibilities, but this must be our aim”.
