Glossop Look To Push On

Despite going out of the FA Cup at Chorley on Saturday, Glossop North End manager Chris Willcock believes there were plenty of positives to take from the day.
Against a Conference North side that were sitting some 70 places above them in the Non-League pyramid, the Hillmen kept the scoresheet blank until 18 minutes from time, until Chorley striker James Dean headed home what proved to be the only goal of the game.
It was an impressive 90 minutes from a Glossop side that has performed well in all competitions so far this season, but Chris says the display came as no surprise to him.
"I have got full confidence in the players I've got that they can go and play against higher league opposition", he said. "They enjoyed the challenge and the opportunity to showcase their talents, and they did themselves proud.
"In the first half we gave as good as we got, and it looked for a long time we would get a draw, but it was a great effort by the team".
Given that Glossop have the most impressive defensive record of any team in the NWCFL, it should hardly be unexpected that Chorley found them hard to break down, and Chris says that that has been key to their form so far.
"We've had a great start this season, compared to the inconsistent one we had last season", he said. "We have started much better this season than last and have been difficult to break down, and that's a collective effort.
"Everyone looks at the back five, but we have a great team ethic We defend from the front with our forwards, the midfield chip in and do their bit and then hopefully the defenders and goalkeeper make good decisions when they are required to".
With the focus now back on league action, the Hillmen could take solace from the fact that all of their rivals at the top of the Premier Division dropped points on Saturday while they were in FA Cup action, but Chris is not looking too far ahead at the moment.
"The results on Saturday meant it wasn't a bad day for us, but there's a long way to go yet, after all we are still in September", he said.
"Obviously we have got games in hand now because of the FA Cup run, but I'd rather have the points on the board. As a manager you are always looking to improve on things, we have the makings of a good squad here, and the challenge now is keep the good form going".
