The weekend's games brought a fascinating mixture of cup glory, late goals and high scoring victories in both FA Cup and league fixtures.

Squires Gate and Glossop North End can look forward to facing higher league opposition in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup after both recorded impressive away wins in the Preliminary Round.

Glossop blitzed their way to a 7-0 win at Maltby Main, with Hillmen skipper Dave Young achieving the unusual feat of scoring a hat trick of penalties. Jason Carey and Aaron Moxham also weighed in with a brace apiece, and the Hillmen will now travel to Northwich Victoria in the next round.

Squires Gate looked down and out after going two goals down after 55 minutes at New Mills, but Josh Westwood pulled a goal back, and then two goals in the last three minutes from Jake Forshaw and Sam Dickinson earned a last gasp win for Gate, which sets up a derby clash at Bamber Bridge in the next round.

Four sides are still in with a chance of progressing through to the next round via midweek replays. 1874 Northwich were 3-1 up with four minutes to go at home to Prescot Cables, but the visitors scored twice to earn a replay, and impressive performances from both goalkeepers contributed to Congleton Town and Salford City sharing a 0-0 draw at Booth Street.

Andrew Potter's sixth goal of the season earned Runcorn Town a 1-1 draw against Goole, and a late equaliser salvaged a 2-2 draw for Radcliffe Borough at home to Atherton Collieries, who had led through a double from Mark Battersby.

However, interest in the competition ended for Stockport Sports who lost 5-1 at home to Ossett Town, West Didsbury & Chorlton also lost at home by 3-0 to Brighouse Town and Runcorn Linnets were on the wrong end of a 4-0 scoreline at Droylsden.

In the Premier Division, AFC Liverpool failed to narrow the gap between themselves and Runcorn Linnets at the top of the table when they lost 4-2 at Abbey Hey, with Brandon Zibaka grabbing a double for Abbey in their first win of the season.

Silsden moved level on points with AFC Liverpool after a 2-1 win over Ashton Athletic, Joe Jalil scoring the winner 18 minutes from time.

In a cracking game at Brocstedes Park, St Helens Town edged out Barnoldswick Town 4-3, with all the goals arriving in the first 68 minutes.

AFC Blackpool are still searching for their first points of the season after two goals in the last 15 minutes from Sam McLennan and Richard Williams snatched a 2-1 win for Maine Road over on the Fylde coast.

In the other two games Alsager Town and Colne, and Bootle and Nelson, both shared 1-1 draws.

Daisy Hill moved to joint top of the First Division alongside Atherton Collieries, with a 2-0 win over Litherland REMYCA at New Sirs, Jake Foster and an Andrew Buckley penalty before half time proving decisive.

Rochdale Town are in third place, although they had to settle for a 2-2 draw at Cammell Laird 1907, after Callum Smith and Kristian Evans had given them a two goal lead at half time.

AFC Darwen were the biggest winners in the division, with a hat trick from Steve Lee and two from Ryan Steele helping them to a 6-1 win at Chadderton, and they are now level on points with Ashton Town, who won 3-1 at home to Irlam.

A late goal from Allwyne Thompson earned Eccleshall all three points and a 1-0 win over Northwich Flixton Villa, and Ashley Duckworth's goal just before the hour proved to be decisive in Atherton LR's 2-1 win over Cheadle Town.
