Only a handful of league fixtures this weekend as we have a number of teams still representing the NWCFL in the FA Cup Prelim round. Despite that, we still have some fantastic games to look forward to.

Bottom of the table Abbey Hey, who are still seeking their first points of the campaign, host AFC Liverpool at The Abbey Stadium. Liverpool are yet to taste defeat in the league and the only blemish on their record is the defeat to Squires Gate in the FA Cup.

I'm expecting goals in this one as AFC Liverpool boast two of the league's leading marksmen in Ryan Cox and Ronnie Morgan, while Abbey Hey have joint worst defensive record.

Another team looking for the first win are AFC Blackpool, and they come up against a resurgent Maine Road who after losing their five opening games, have now won their last three, including back to back 4-1 wins over Nelson and Bootle respectively.

Blackpool really are struggling, only 4 goals in 7 games, the latest being a scant second half consolation in the 4-1 defeat to AFC Liverpool after being 4-0 down at half time.

Colne travel to Alsager Town with the most inconsistent form of teams in the league no doubt. Their form reads LWLWLWL, each win is backed up with a loss and I'm sure manager Steve Cunningham will be looking to gain some more consistency.

Each game they've lost, they've also failed to score. Alsager, however, have put back to back wins together after their indifferent start and will fancy their chances at Woodland Court.

Bootle against Nelson should be an entertaining fixture. Two teams many tipped to do well during pre-season haven't really got off to the best of starts. Both currently have 7 points and sit in the bottom half of the table. However there's goals in both teams, and I'm expecting a high scoring classic.

Silsden versus Ashton Athletic sees two teams in good form so far this season. Both teams currently have only one league defeat to their name and are both coming into the game on the back of tough midweek wins. Silsden overcame Colne by 1 goal to nil, while Ashton were 2-1 winners at Squires Gate.

The final league game sees Barnoldswick Town travel to Brocstedes to take on St Helens Town. A change of fortunes for both clubs recently sees Barnoldswick undefeated in the last two games after suffering 5 heavy defeats in the first 5 games of the season.

St Helens started well with 3 wins in the first 4 games, but their recent form is quite the opposite, 4 games since their last win which includes 5-2, 7-2, 4-0 and 4-2 defeats.
