After a busy close season off the field, Winsford United are now gearing up for the new season with a strengthened squad and improved facilies at the Barton Stadium.

With work on both the ground and the squad now complete, Blues Secretary Bob Astles is optimistic about the club's chances of success in the coming year.

"We’ve spent a small fortune getting the stadium up to scratch", he said. "We had nine games called off last season with waterlogged pitches, something unheard of in recent years. However, we have done something about it and put new drains in the problem places. We have also had the pitch treated and it is better now than I have ever seen it.

"We had leaks all over the place under the stand but now the stand roof has been mended and all the buildings underneath the stand have had their roofs and ceilings replaced.

"With help from 1874 Northwich we are currently refurbishing the hospitality room, the press office and creating a new sponsors room where the club shop used to be.

"On the playing side we have recruited some very experienced players who have spent most of their careers at higher levels and together with a group of talented youngsters and the best of the players from last season we are very optimistic about the coming season. There will be a major announcement about sponsorship soon whereby two big sponsors will be showing their confidence in what we are trying to do and making a vital injection of cash.

"We have also obtained charter standard and there will be no fewer than six teams playing under the Winsford United umbrella next season - ourselves, Winsford United Ladies and four Winsford United Colts junior teams".
