Holker Old Boys manager Gary Fawcett is confident that his newly strengthend squad has the quality to challenge at the top of the Division One table in the coming season.

The Cumbrians finished strongly in the league and also reached the semi-final of the First Division Challenge Trophy last time around, and with everyone from last season’s squad signed up again, alongside some new faces, Gary is targeting more success in the new campaign.

"Holker finished 6th last season in my debut season, and the management team and squad are looking forward to continuing the progression from second bottom where the club was two seasons ago", he said.

"Key players have re-signed including the prolific Jamie Pattinson, Holker’s leading goal scorer, plus both his brothers Stuart and Danny, in what proved to be a deadly trio in Holker’s ranks last season.

"Captain Phil Coombe, ex-Kendal Town players Martin Grundy, Liam Shields and JP Stanway have all committed for another season, ex-Blackpool and Barrow AFC player Guy Heffernan has also pledged his services, and we have also captured ex-Carlisle Utd trainee James Bonner to stiffen the defence.

"But the most notable signing is the capture of the best young striker in the area, Jordan Brough.

"The ex-Walney FC striker is one of the talked about talents in the area and his capture has been the icing on the cake.  We have been tracking Jordan for a while now and the management team are really looking forward to working with such a precocious talent.

"Pre-season has started really well and the lads are looking sharp and fit.  Having the same squad from the start of the season is a real bonus, the players have really brought into the way we want to play football and what we want to achieve within the club".
