After months of preparation, Litherland REMYCA manager Dave Abraham is looking forward with confidence to the club's inaugural campaign in the NWCFL.

REMYCA began their run up to the start of the season with a game at Buckley Town on Saturday, but as Dave explained, planning for the club’s debut season in the North West Counties Football League has been underway for several months.

“Our preparations have been in full swing since 2-3 months before the end of last season, as the club were very clear about their intentions to enter the North West Counties League”, said Dave.  “As a result, we perhaps had our eye on things maybe even before that.

“We have brought in a new Physio to our team to make three in total, we have a fitness and physiotherapy programme for all players including keeping reports on all injuries, training programme development and general player data to keep our squad in optimum condition.  I have brought in an experienced Assistant Coach and we are also keeping our eyes open for other additions where required.

“On the park we have brought in around 10-12 new players to boost and overhaul the squad.  We have given the players that have been with REMYCA their opportunity and there are a good number of players who have seized it and they are relishing the challenge”.

Despite making the step up to the NWCFL, Dave says that he is aiming high when it comes to setting his squad targets to achieve.

“We are aiming for a top six finish and why not?” he said.  “The club have been bringing in players and giving us access to a better stage for the team, and we as a coaching and playing staff have to rise to that.

“As it is our first season, mid-table would be OK as we are new to the division, but the point of us bringing in experienced players is to overcome the naivety of being a new club to the league, so our expectations are not unrealistic.

“We are a footballing side and do not want to lump the ball up the park, our signings reflect that.  We have brought in good footballing minds and the ability to match that, it is all about moving forward for us.

“We are looking forward to all of the games, it’s our debut season and it is what the club have been striving for.  We don’t fear any team.  Obviously we are looking forward to the local derby games such as Cammell Laird but every game, home and away, is a great opportunity for us.

“For us, success on and off the park will be reflected in the club’s development.  Everyone has seen the model Fleetwood have set, but to do that you need backing, so off the field I hope that the local and not-so-local business community see what we are trying to do and come in and join us on our journey.

“We are on the verge of something quite exciting here at Litherland Sports Park and we have the project and partnerships available to really give them value for money.

“If the first team can get stuck in and keep our discipline there is no reason why we cannot make an immediate impact this season, but whatever the outcome, Litherland REMYCA is built on a sound footing and after 50-odd years this is a great opportunity to really push on and do something special”.
