Norton United clinched the Premier Division title with one game to spare, after a 4-0 win at Winsford United on Tuesday night.

Any nerves in the visitors camp were eased when Leigh Skellern put Norton ahead in the 15th minute with a close range effort, and they doubled their advantage on the stroke of half time through an own goal.

Five minutes after the restart Chris Baker added a third and once a thumping header from Jon Beaumont on the hour mark made it 4-0, the celebrations began among the Norton supporters, and Twitter was ablaze as messages of congratulations rained in as the game moved to its conclusion.

Manger Scott Dundas, who won the league as a player with Kidsgrove Athletic in 1998, reflected afterwards on his title winning double and his squad's achievement.

"It's been 14 years since I won this league with Kidsgrove, and now to win it as a manager is just fantastic, it's a great feeling", he said.

"The way the lads have performed all season has been exceptional, and it's amazing that a small club like ours won promotion, had just one season in the Premier Division, and are now being promoted again. It's beyond our wildest dreams.

"On Saturday at West Didsbury we thought we had won it (the title) then, with a goal in the last minute that wasn't given, and I thought we were unlucky only to get a draw then.

"I was determined we would win it ourselves and not have to depend on another result elsewhere, and I'm really pleased with how we approached the game tonight.

"We dominated from the start, got the goals at the right time and it was a really good performance.

"Two promotions in three years is fantastic, and now it's a case of sitting down with the chairman and seeing where we go from here. The club has done well in building on and off the field, and now it's a case of keeping that momentum going".
