Danny Williams, who starred for Daisy Hill as a teenager in season 2007-08, is the latest former NWCFL player to make his mark in the professional ranks.

Now aged 25, Danny is currently plying his trade in the Scottish Premiership with Inverness Caledonian Thistle, where he recently scored his first goal in professional football with the only goal of the game in his side's 1-0 win against Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

A native of Leigh, Danny's senior career began at Daisy Hill and after making his way through to the first team from the youth ranks, in season 2007-2008 he made 33 appearances, scoring four goals, and won the NWCFL Second Division Player of the Month award.

He then moved to FC United of Manchester, where he suffered a broken leg in his debut season, and from there moved to Clitheroe and then to Kendal Town in February 2011, where he returned to last summer after a loan spell at Chester having collected a Conference North winners’ medal.

He was initially linked with Inverness last May, but finally made the move up North in August 2013. He has made seven starting appearances in the SPFL this season, one of which was a televised game against Celtic at the end of December, and has also made 10 appearances as substitute.

He was also an unused substitute when his Caley team mates staged a dramatic win over Hearts on penalties in the Scottish League Cup semi-final, and will now be looking forward to being part of the squad for the final against Aberdeen next month.

Daisy Hill Secretary Bob Naylor said everyone at the club is delighted at the progress Danny has made.

"I can't recall any Daisy Hill player in my time at the club progressing right the way through to the professional ranks like Danny has", said Bob.

"He came up through the youth team which progressed four rounds in the FA Youth in 2006-07, beating higher league opponents, before losing to Doncaster Rovers. He broke into the first team the following season and his career has progressed from there.

"Danny still keeps in touch through social media with some of the players who were at the club at that time, and we are all very pleased he has done so well".

Danny spoke to the Inverness Caledonian Thistle TV channel in early January about signing a new deal at the club and the interview can be viewed here.
