Silsden have taken delivery of a defibrillator which will be available at all events taking place at the Angel Telecom Stadium.
The defribrillator will be available for use for all Senior and Junior sections of the club, Silsden Whitestar, Silsden Cricket Club and all those who attend matches and functions.
As reported recently on the League website, the Football Association and the British Heart Foundation are actively promoting the use of automated external defibrillators, and want to ensure they are available at grounds across the country.
A defibrillator gives the heart a controlled electrical shock during cardiac arrest. For every minute that passes without de fibrillation, chances of survival are said to decrease by about 10%.
Silsden funded the cost of the defribrillator courtesy of a donation from the Supporters Club, two anonymous donations and a £600 donation from one of the club’s junior players, Ollie Simeone, who was seriously injured last summer while representing the Silsden Under16s in the prestigious Copa Catalunya in Northern Spain.
Silsden Press Officer Jim Rosser explained: “Ollie has since had numerous operations on his leg at the Sheffield Northern General Hospital and, initially, the family had to foot the bill before the insurance payments came through seven months later.
“In order to compensate his family for expenses in paying interest on debts, travelling costs and days off work for his parents, Silsden Football Club held a fundraising night on Thursday December 27th.
“The event raised a whopping £1200 and when this was offered to Ollie he was overwhelmed. He and his family thanked the club and the musicians for their help and support, and he decided to donate £600 to the club in order to purchase a defibrillator”.
Club Chairman Sean McNulty, who was on the club's trip to Spain, thanked Oliver for the donation.
“What a magnificent gesture”, he said. “It was very stressful in Spain and Ollie and his family had a lot to overcome. Ollie’s a great lad and all at the club wish him well with his future career. His offer to help others is fantastic.”
The Cobbydalers were presented with the defibrillator prior to last Saturday’s game with Stockport Sports by Chris Golding, The Group Manager of K.F.A Medical Group Ltd.
The company provide trained staff for outdoor events and at present have trained staff attending the Cobbydalers’ home fixtures. They have offered training for use of the defibrillator and provide First Aid Training for all the Silsden managers from Under 6s to the First Team. As well as sponsoring the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and being Proud Partners of “Defibs4schools” they also sponsor the Silsden Under 7s.
