The Official Website of The North West Counties Football League

Runcorn Town will be supporting their former striker Jason Carey in his attempts to raise money for the Woodlands Hospice in North Liverpool.

As reported on the website earlier in the week, the Formby striker will be raising funds for the Hospice through taking part in a “Tough Mudder” event over the weekend of 17th/18th November, meaning that he will miss the Squirrels’ FA Vase tie against his former club.

However, Town will be showing their support for Jason on the day, as Secretary Martin Fallon explained.

“Jason was at Runcorn Town for four years, having joined at the start of the 2008/09 season. He was instrumental in our rise up to the North West Counties League and scored 89 goals in his 158 appearances for us. Obviously he moved to Formby at the end of last season and the way he has started this season is fantastic!

“Since his departure to Formby, our paths have not crossed on the field although he remains a friend of the club, and it has been good to catch up with him when he has attended a couple of our games this season when Formby have not been in action.

“When we heard that Jason was missing the Vase game against us, we were all quite gutted as it would have a great spectacle to watch. One of our central defenders Danny Dalton is good friends with Jason and it would have been great seeing them against each other. Having said that, we applaud him for what he is doing and want to do a little bit to show our support to him on the day.

“To this extent we will be holding an enhanced half time raffle during the Formby FA Vase game, with several prizes on offer as well as the usual bottle. All takings from the raffle will be donated to Jason so that he can raise more money for what is a very worthwhile cause. Good luck Jason!"
